UK study routes
There is more than one way into a UK degree. The right route depends on your last qualification, your grades and how much time you want to spend in the UK.
Bachelor's degree
Three years in England, Wales and Northern Ireland; commonly four in Scotland. Entered after +2 or A-Levels, subject to the university's own entry criteria.
Master's degree
Typically one year taught. The most common route for Nepali graduates. Some courses expect relevant work experience — check current university requirements.
Top-up degree

Pathway / pre-master's

Why the UK
The UK's one-year master's is the shortest route to a recognised postgraduate qualification among the major English-speaking destinations, which shortens the period a family is funding living costs abroad. Degrees are quality-assured across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and qualifications are widely recognised by employers in Nepal and internationally.
Choosing a university, not a ranking
Rankings measure research output more than they measure teaching, placement support or how a given department treats international students. A better sequence is: confirm the course content matches what you want to do, confirm entry requirements are realistic for your transcript, confirm the city's living costs fit your budget, and only then consider reputation.
Costs and honest budgeting
Tuition varies substantially by institution, subject and level, and living costs in London are materially higher than in most other UK cities. Because published fees change each academic year, this platform does not display a fee unless it has been verified for that course. Ask Intandem for the current figure rather than budgeting from a number found elsewhere.
English language evidence
Most Nepali applicants provide a recognised English test, but the accepted tests, minimum component scores and any internal assessment option are set by each university and revised regularly. Treat any score you have seen quoted as provisional until it is confirmed against the university's current admissions page.
Applying with clarity
Strong applications from Nepal are rarely the ones with the highest grades. They are the ones where the course choice follows logically from the applicant's previous study, the personal statement answers why this course and why now, and the financial evidence is prepared correctly the first time. Can I apply from Nepal without IELTS? +
Some universities accept alternative evidence of English, including other approved tests or an internal assessment. Policies differ by institution and change over time, so check current university requirements before assuming a waiver applies to you.
How much does it cost to study in the UK? +
Tuition depends on the university, subject and level, and living costs in London are materially higher than elsewhere in the UK. We do not publish fee figures we have not verified for a specific course — ask us for the current number.
Is a two-year gap after my bachelor’s a problem? +
Not automatically. Several universities accept study gaps where you can account for the period with work, training or family circumstances. How a gap is treated is set by each university’s admissions policy.
Can I work while studying in the UK? +
Work permission is stated as a condition on your visa and depends on your course level and sponsor. Treat any hours limit you have heard as something to verify against your own visa conditions.
Can my spouse come with me? +
Dependant eligibility under the Student route is set by the Home Office and has changed in recent years. Check the current official guidance for your course level before planning on it.
